SHARED PATH: Caregiver Support Workshop
El proyecto “Camino Compartido” surge de la necesidad de atender las demandas emocionales, legales y prácticThe “Shared Path” project arose from the need to address the emotional, legal, and practical demands of caregivers, which are often overlooked in clinical settings. This need was identified thanks to collaboration with the ASACO (Association of Patients with Ovarian and Gynecological Cancer).
The program’s objective was clear:
- Provide psychological tools to cope with emotional impact.
- Offer legal advice on rights and available resources.
- Share nutritional and physical exercise recommendations tailored to cancer patients.
- Teach strategies for a proactive role in treatment management.
These needs were translated into a structured training program with sessions led by experts in oncology, psychology, nursing, nutrition, physical exercise, and law. The format included interactive dynamics and a final Q&A round, allowing caregivers to integrate diverse knowledge and discuss their role comprehensively.
Thanks to this initiative, caregivers acquired practical tools for daily application and emotional resilience, improving both their own well-being and the quality of care they provide, gaining confidence and effectiveness in supporting cancer patients.
Welcome and Program
This program brings together specialists in oncology, psycho-oncology, nursing, nutrition, physical exercise, and law to provide a comprehensive view of cancer patient care and caregiver support.
Introduction to Gynecological Cancer
This session explains what cancer is, its frequency, and the main risk factors in gynecological tumors. It covers the most common symptoms, available therapeutic tools (surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted treatments), and the importance of the multidisciplinary committee in decision-making.
Emotional Support for Caregivers
Caring for a cancer patient involves a significant emotional and physical impact, which can lead to “caregiver burnout syndrome.” This session addresses how to recognize signs of stress, anxiety, and exhaustion, and offers practical strategies to take care of yourself while caring for others.
How to Anticipate and Manage Cancer Treatments
Before starting treatment, it is essential to plan medical and household aspects to reduce uncertainty. This session explains the most common side effects of treatments and how to adapt to them, from organizing care to practical tips for maintaining patient independence.
Nutritional Advice for Patients
Nutrition plays an essential role in the clinical evolution and quality of life of cancer patients. This talk provides guidelines to prevent malnutrition, adapt the diet to side effects, and enrich meals with high nutritional density. It includes practical examples, menu planning, and when to consider supplements.
Physical Exercise in Cancer Patients
Physical exercise acts as a “polypill” that improves treatment tolerance, reduces side effects, and increases survival. This session presents recommendations on when to start, what types of exercises to perform, and how to adapt them to each clinical situation.

Legal Advice for Patients and Caregivers
Knowing your rights and legal resources is essential to navigate the cancer process. This session explains benefits for caregivers, the Dependency Law, labor procedures, disability assistance, as well as key aspects of advance directives and palliative care.

Final Conclusions
Conclusion: take care of yourself so you can care for others, eat well, stay active, and know your rights.
